Product Information

May kill or suppress many (more than 900) types of Detrimental Micro-organisms including Detrimental Fungi, Moulds and Yeasts including Candida albicans. It is regarded by some as the treatment of choice against Candida albicans proliferation. Grapefruit Seed extract may inhibit some types of Viruses and is presently under investigation as a potential inhibitor of the HIV virus that causes (AIDS). It is also being investigated as a means of treating the various opportunistic (secondry) infections (from Detrimental Bacteria, Fungi, Parasites and Viruses) that occur in conjunction with AIDS. Grapefriut Seed extract may accelerate the recovery from the Common Cold and may minimize the symptoms of the Common Cold & Influenza and may be a useful treatment for Measles and Rheumatoid Arthritis (where Rheumatoid Arthritis is caused by any of the Detrimental Bacteria).

Grape Seeds (extract) may improve various aspects of Sight including the ability to adapt to glare and dark lighting.

Hair

Grape Seeds (extract) may stimulate Hair growth in persons with Hair Loss (due to the Catechin, Epicatechin and OPCs content of Grape Seeds):

  • Studies on mice have demonstrated that the constituents of Grape Seeds may stimulate the proliferation of Hair Follicles and may convert the Hair growth cycle from the telogen phase to the anagen phase. - The ability of Grape Seeds to stimulate Hair growth may be due (in part) to the ability of some of the OPCs in Grape Seeds inhibiting Protein Kinase C.

Immune System

Grape Seeds (extract) may help to prevent the mutations that initiate some forms of Cancer and may help to kill some types of Cancer cells including:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Colon Cancer
  • Leukemia
  • Lung Cancer
  • Mouth Cancer
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Skin Cancer
  • Stomach Cancer

Metabolism

Grape Seeds contain various Antioxidant chemicals (primarily Polyphenols including OPCs):

  • Grape Seeds (extract of) deactivate Hydroxyl Free Radicals (primarily due to their OPCs content).

Grape Seeds (extract of) quench Superoxide Free Radicals. Grape Seeds (extract) may inhibit the oxidation of LDL Cholesterol. Grape Seeds (extract) may inhibit the damage to Liver Cells (hepatocytes) that occurs as a result of Paracetamol overdose.
Grape Seeds (extract) may facilitate weight loss in persons afflicted with Obesity (due to the ability of Grape Seeds to inhibit the activity of Pancreatic Lipase and Lipoprotein Lipase).

Nervous System

Grape Seeds (extract) may alleviate Restless Legs Syndrome.

Orthodox Medical Procedures

Grape Seeds (extract) (150 - 300 mg per day) may reduce the Edema and Inflammation that occurs following Surgery (due to the Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs) content of Grape Seeds).

Sexual System

Grape Seeds (extract) may reduce the severity of the symptoms of Endometriosis.

Skin

Grape Seeds (extract) may help to prevent Bruising (by increasing the strength of the Capillaries and other Blood Vessels).
Grape Seeds (extract applied topically or 200 mg of extract consumed orally) may maintain the integrity of the Skin's Collagen and Elastin - by quenching the Xanthine Oxidase enzyme that catalyzes the production of the detrimental Collagenase and Elastase enzymes. This activity may help to prevent some aspects of Skin Aging.

Grape Seeds (extract applied topically or consumed orally) may inhibit the development of Wrinkles (by enhancing the body's renewal of Collagen, inhibiting excessive Cross-Linking and inhibiting the Hyaluronidase enzyme).

Water/Water Balance
Grape Seeds (extract) may alleviate Edema (by improving the structural integrity of Blood Vessels).

Dosage Recommendations

General Therapeutic Dosage

The general therapeutic dosage of Grape Seed extract for therapeutic purposes is 100 - 400 mg per day. This dosage level provides 95 - 380 mg of the primary active ingredient, Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPC) if a 95% standardized Grape Seed Extract product is used.

Skin

The usual dosage of Grape Seed extract for the prevention and possible reversal of some aspects of Skin Aging is 200 mg per day.

Safety

Grape Seeds are regarded as a safe therapeutic agent. No side effects have been observed.

Grape Seeds vs. Pycnogenol

There has been much debate concerning the respective benefits of Grape Seeds (extract) vs. Pine Bark (Pycnogenol) as a source of the therapeutic agent Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs). In almost all products, Grape Seed extract is less expensive per mg of OPCs compared to Pycnogenol. Cost considerations aside, Grape Seed extract contains a specific OPC named Procyanidin B2-3'-O-gallate that is not present in Pycnogenol. Procyanidin B2-3'-O-gallate is claimed to be the most powerful individual OPC yet discovered.
