Aminohydroxybutyric Acid (Gabob) - The closest legal molecule to GHB

GABOB is also known as Aminohydroxybutyric acid and even Buxamin and it is related to GABA and also to GHB.

This rarely found supplement has been in the published literature since the 1960’s, and its uses in Europe have been for its anti-anxiety, anti-stress purposes and also for its anti-convulsant actions in Epilepsy.

There are a number of animal and human studies that show its efficacy. For example, one study, (Garcia-Flores E., Farias R. Gamma-Amino-beta-hydroxybutyric acid as add-on therapy in adult patients with severe focal epilepsy. Sterotact. Funct. Neurosurg. 1997;69(1-4 Pt 2):243-6), found that an oral dose of 250 mg. of aminohydroxybutyric acid twice daily over a 26-week period reduced the number of total seizures by 50% (compared to controls), and furthermore no serious adverse side effects to the medication were noted.

What is also very interesting is that since the 1980’s it has been known that Aminohydroxybutyric acid can increase growth hormone levels. One study, (Melis GB et al: Dose related effects of gamma-amino beta-hydroxy butyric acid [GABOB] infusion on growth hormone secretion in normal women: J. Endocrinol. Invest., 1982 Mar-Apr;5(2):101-6) found that when women were infused with 100 mg. over 20-minutes that there was a significant rise in HGH levels over their controls. This helped back up an earlier study, (Fioretti P. et al. Gamma-amino-beta-hydroxy butyric acid stimulates Prolactin and growth hormone release in normal women. J. Clin. Endocrinol. Metab. 1978 Dec;47(6):1336-40), that also suggested that 100 mg. of aminohydroxybutyric acid i.v. increased HGH and Prolactin levels.

Significant improvements to HGH, Prolactin and cortisol levels have also been noted in men who were injected with 300 mg. of Aminohydroxybutyric acid, (Takahara J et al. Stimulatory effects of gamma-aminohydroxybutyric acid [GABOB] on growth hormone, Prolactin and cortisol release in man).

What makes all this significant is that these agonist (stimulatory) effects of Aminohydroxybutyric acid are very similar to GHB, and whilst the injectable versions have induced unconsciousness at dosages over 150 mg., it does not appear to do so when used orally.

Therefore, this is why we believe that as Aminohydroxybutyric acid is related to GHB and shares many of its properties, it is in fact the closest legal molecule/ alternative available.

There are no reported side effects at “normal” dosages. At high dosages some slight drowsiness may occur, therefore caution is advised to be in a safe environment, (i.e. not driving or operating machinery etc).

There are no specific contraindications listed, although concurrent use with other GABA supplements and agonists (i.e. Valium) is not advised and would be best considered only under a physician’s guidance.

Dosages for anti-anxiety/ stress would be in the region of 250 mg. once or twice daily.

For epilepsy 500 mg. twice daily.

For HGH release, (whilst this does still remain “experimental” in oral form), in the region of 500 mg. to 1000 mg. prior to bedtime.

GAMIBETAL / BUXAMINE

Ingredients:
Syrup: 100 ml contains: Active Ingredient: 10 g buxamine (gamma amino beta-hydroxy butyric acid). Other Ingredients: sucrose, sodium methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium metabisulphite, sodium propyl p-hydroxybenzoate, sodium edetate, apricot essence, alcohol, purified water.

Tablets:
1 tablet contains: Active Ingredient: 500 mg buxamine (gamma amino beta-hydroxy butyric acid). Other Ingredients: Cornstarch, gelatin, magnesium stearate.

Pharmaceutical category:
Anti-epileptic.

Recommended for treating: Idiopathic and symptomatic epilepsy and all types of convulsions.

Contraindications:
Known individual hypersensitivity to this product.

Caution:
During treatment with barbiturates and other anti-epileptic drugs, the initial dosage of GAMIBETAL should be gradually increased while at the same time gradually withdrawing the dosage of the pharmaceutical drug used previously.

Pregnant women should only take this product when absolutely necessary and always under a physician’s supervision.

Interactions:
No adverse interactions of any type have been reported.

Warning:
This syrup contains sodium metabisulphite. This substance may cause allergic reactions and serious asthmatic attacks in sensitive patients and particularly in asthma sufferers.

Dosage and directions for use:
500 mg. tablets: 2-6 tablets, according to your physician’s directions.
Syrup 10%: 1-4 small doses daily according to your physician’s directions.
When treating elderly patients, the physician must closely monitor this dosage and assess the possibility of a gradual reduction of it.

Instructions for opening and closing the phial:
To open the phial: Unscrew the cap and turn until it stops. Then hold the phial as shown in Fig 1 and push the cap upwards. To close the phial: Place the cap over the mouth of the phial as shown in Fig 2. Then press down until it is closed tight.

Overdose:
No symptoms of overdose of this product have been reported.

Side effects:
n some cases GAMIBETAL can cause temporary anorexia and drowsiness.

Expiry: Do not take this drug after the expiry date shown on the container.
