Product Information Canthaxanthin is a type of D X Carotenoid and accumilates in the Subcutaneous Tissue of the Skin. The Skin's translucent nature permits the reddish/brown colour of Canthaxanthin to show through. This colour approximates that attained through Tanning. Canthaxanthin is therefore an oral alternative to topical Sunless Tanners. Canthaxanthin protects the Skin from the damage caused by excessive exposure to Ultra-Violet Radiation. Canthaxanthin slightly increases the amount of exposure to Sunlight and Ultra-Violet Radiation that can be tolerated prior to the manifestation of Sunburn. Canthaxanthin inhibits the further growth of some types of Cancer, helps to prevent Breast Cancer and Ultra-Violet Radiation-induced Skin Cancer.
Description
Canthaxanthin is a type of Dihydroxycarotenoid Xanthophyll Carotenoid which accumulates in the Subcutaneous tissue of the skin. The skin's translucent nature permits the reddish/brown colour of Canthaxanthin to show through. This colour approximates that attained through tanning. Canthaxanthin is therefore an oral alternative to topical Sunless Tanners.
Health Benefits of Canthaxanthin Cancer Canthaxanthin may inhibit the further growth of some types of cancer (possibly due to its antioxidant properties preventing Lipid Peroxidation):
* Canthaxanthin may help to prevent breast cancer. * Canthaxanthin may inhibit the ability of Papilloma Viruses to initiate cancer. * Canthaxanthin may help to prevent (Ultra-violet radiation-induced) skin cancer.
Metabolism
Canthaxanthin possesses antioxidant properties:
* Canthaxanthin quenches Singlet Oxygen Free Radicals.
Skin
Canthaxanthin may protect the skin from the damage caused by excessive exposure to ultra-violet radiation. Canthaxanthin may slightly increase the amount of exposure to sunlight and ultra-violet radiation that can be tolerated prior to the manifestation of sunburn. Canthaxanthin accumulates in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin. The skin’s translucent nature permits the reddish/brown color of Canthaxanthin to show through. This color approximates that attained through tanning. Canthaxanthin is therefore an oral alternative to topical sunless tanners. Canthaxanthin may help to restore normal skin color to Vitiligo patients. Canthaxanthin may counteract these potentially toxic substances
Electromagnetic Radiation
Canthaxanthin may protect the skin from the damage (e.g. Skin Cancer) caused by excessive exposure to ultra-violet radiation (especially from UV-B).
Canthaxanthin may enhance the function of these substances
Vitamins
Canthaxanthin enhances the function of Vitamin E.
Dietary Sources of Canthaxanthin
Fungi: Mushrooms Seafood: Salmon Trout Potentially Toxic Effects of Canthaxanthin
Eyes/Vision
Excessive use of Canthaxanthin may cause a form of reversible Retinopathy caused by the excessive accumulation of Canthaxanthin (in the form of small gold particles) in the macular regions of the eyes - Canthaxanthin-induced reversible Retinopathy is commonly known as “Gold Dust Retinopathy”.
Bioavailability
Canthaxanthin accumulate in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin.
Dosage Recommendations
The usual oral dosage of Canthaxanthin for the prevention of sunburn and for inducing an artificial suntan varies according to body weight. The saturation period is approximately three to five weeks (it occurs when the entire body has obtained an orange/bronze color that is readily noticeable in the face, hands and feet). Coloring begins to occur approximately one to two weeks before saturation has been completed. Body Weight:
[Pounds] [kg] [Saturation Period] [Maintenance Period]
[Under 100] [Under 45] [120 mg] [60 mg]
[100 to 159] [45 – 72] [150 mg] [75 mg]
[160 to 200] [72 – 90] [180 mg] [90 mg]
[Over 200] [Over 90] [210 mg] [105 m]
