Product Information

This CLA is Tonalin CLA, which is considered the most superior. Reshape yourself with CLA. CLA not only shrinks fat cells, but it promotes weight loss. Breaks down fats, inhibits fat storage & mobilizes fatty reserves for energy. It facilitates muscle growth and increases muscle strength. It is a powerful weapon in the inhibition of certain cancers, namely breast and colon cancer. Prevents arteriosclerosis. Possesses potent anti-oxidant properties. Dramatic cholesterol reducing effects. Provides anti-oxidant and immune enhancing benefits.

Description

Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a collective name for a group of modified forms of Linoleic Acid that contain double bonds [conjugation] along the 9th and 11th carbons in the Linoleic Acid molecule - there are eight known isomers (different places on the Linoleic Acid molecule where double bonds may occur), but the cis-10, trans-12 isomer is presently believed to be the most therapeutically active isomer. Until 1999 it was thought that the cis-9, trans-11 was the most biologically active. The type known as cis-12, trans-10 is the second most predominant isomer in the CLA group. Unlike "true" Linoleic Acid, Conjugated Linoleic Acid does not undergo the metabolic transformations associated with Linoleic Acid that lead to the production of Arachidonic Acid.

Health Benefits of Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Cardiovascular System

CLA may help to prevent Atherosclerosis.
CLA may help to prevent abnormal Blood Clotting by inhibiting platelet aggregation.

Immune System

CLA may limit reactions to (Food) Allergies (due to CLA’s effects on the Immune System).
CLA may inhibit the development of some forms of Cancer:

  • - CLA may inhibit the initiation, growth and metastasis of Breast Cancer.
  • - CLA may help to prevent Colon Cancer.
  • - CLA may help to prevent Melanoma.
  • - CLA may inhibit the further growth and metastasis of the Cancer cells involved in Prostate Cancer.

CLA may stimulate the production of Helper T-Cells (CD4 Cells).
CLA may stimulate the production of T-Lymphocytes.

Metabolism

CLA possesses potent Antioxidant properties:

  • - The Antioxidant effects of CLA are believed to be 200% greater than those of Beta- Carotene.

CLA may increase the body’s Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).
CLA may help to lower elevated Blood Sugar levels (which is particularly beneficial for Diabetes Mellitus patients).
CLA may lower total serum Cholesterol levels and also increases the stability of Cholesterol, causing it to become less susceptible to Oxidation:

  • - CLA may significantly lower LDL Cholesterol and may help to prevent the oxidation of LDL Cholesterol levels.

CLA may help to prevent Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (by normalizing Insulin levels, preventing Insulin Resistance and lowering Blood Sugar (Glucose) levels.
CLA may help to prevent Insulin Resistance (i.e. it increases Insulin Sensitivity).
CLA (3,300 mg per day) facilitates weight loss in persons afflicted with Obesity (it stimulates the process of thermogenesis and lipolysis in Brown Adipose Tissue). CLA may also reduce the deposition additional Fats in existing Adipose Tissue.

CLA may lower serum Triglycerides levels.

Musculoskeletal System

CLA (4,000 - 5,000 mg per day) may facilitate Muscle Growth (i.e. it may possess anabolic properties) and may inhibit Muscle loss (catabolism):

  • - CLA increases nitrogen retention.

CLA may increase Muscle Strength (especially in people who engage in Isotonic Exercise (bodybuilding)).
CLA may decrease Arachidonic Acid levels in Skeletal Muscle (thereby helping to lower Prostaglandin E2 (a compound that can cause catabolism of Skeletal Muscle) levels in Skeletal Muscle.
CLA Enhances the Function/Production of these Substances

Hormones

CLA may help to normalize Insulin levels.
Immune System Chemicals (Cytokines)

CLA may increase IgA levels.
CLA may increase IgG levels.
CLA may increase IgM levels.
CLA may increase the production of Interleukin 2 (IL-2).

Vitamins

CLA inhibits the degradation of Vitamin E.
CLA Minimizes the Toxic Effects of these Substances

Amines

CLA may reduce the toxicity of Heterocyclic Aromatic Amines (HAAs).

Enzymes

CLA may inhibit the activity of Fatty Acid Synthase.
CLA may inhibit Ornithine Decarboxylase.

Hormones

CLA may minimize the catabolic effects of Glucocorticoids (Cortisone and Cortisol) - i.e. CLA is regarded as an Anti-Catabolic compound.

Immune System Chemicals

CLA may lower levels of IgE (which, in excess, is associated with Allergies).

Lipids

CLA may reduce the body's production of Arachidonic Acid (thereby reducing the production of the sometimes toxic Eicosanoids (such as Prostaglandin E2) for which Arachidonic Acid is a precursor):

  • - CLA may decrease Arachidonic Acid levels in Skeletal Muscle.

CLA may inhibit the release of Leukotriene B4.
CLA may inhibit the release of Leukotriene C4.
CLA may lower the level of Linoleic Acid in Phospholipids.
CLA may inhibit the production of Series 2 Prostaglandins:

  • - CLA may inhibit the production of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2).

These Substances Enhance the Function of CLA

Lipids

Microorganisms in many animals convert some Linoleic Acid (LA) into Conjugated Linoleic Acid (although this process appears to be relatively inefficient). It is unknown at present whether or not this conversion can occur in humans.

Toxic Effects of CLA

Extensive research using CLA on animals has shown no toxicity or adverse effects. It is presently believed that CLA possesses no known side effects. Note that this does not mean that there are none (human trials involving CLA are lacking).

Dietary Sources of CLA

(mg of CLA per 100 grams)

Animal Fats: Tallow (Beef) 500
Dairy Products: Cheese Cottage Cheese
Milk
Meats: Beef* Turkey
Veal Chicken
* The CLA content of grass-fed cows is up to four times that of grain-fed cows.

Dosage Recommendations

The therapeutic dosage of CLA for the prevention of Cancer is 3,500 mg per day.
The therapeutic dosage of CLA for the enhancement of Muscle Growth is 6,000 - 8,000 mg per day.
The dosage of CLA that researchers have determined may accelerate weight loss in Obesity sufferers is 3,000 - 3,300 mg per day. It should be taken as three divided doses of 1,000 - 1,100 mg prior to each meal.

Bioavailability

Maximum uptake of CLA occurs after 15 days of daily CLA supplementation and maximum bioavailability is maintained by daily supplementation - depletion of CLA from the Muscles begins to occur after cessation of CLA supplementation for 1 week.
