What is Idebenone?

Idebenone is a superior form of co-enzyme Q10, with more potent antioxidant protective and energising effects. It has powerful anti-aging effects by protecting DNA from damage and also improves brain function. Unlike co-enzyme Q 10, which does not protect under low oxygen conditions (eg a couch potato beginning an exercise program, or a heart attack/stroke victim), Idebenone offers anti-oxidant protection under all conditions.

What are the benefits and effects of Idebenone?

Anti-aging effects: Idebenone is essential to keep cells alive. Without idebenone, the DNA of the energy producing mitochondia within the cells becomes damaged, resulting in cellular death and accelerated aging. Damaged mitochondrial DNA is one of the main causes of aging.

Smart nutrient:

Idebenone protects against memory-loss and enhances learning ability. It achieves this by energising brain nerves and boosting levels of nerve growth factor and the memory neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. Idebenone also helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease and slows down its progression.

Brain, heart and organ protection:

The cells that are most susceptible to mitochondrial fatigue and damage with advancing age are the brain and heart muscle cells. Unlike Co Q10, which offers little protection under low oxygen conditions (which worsen with aging), Idebenone works in all conditions and therefore protects the heart and brain from damage that occurs during low oxygen situations. Energy and anti-oxidant:

The body uses oxygen to create energy (called ATP) in the mitochondria of our cells. Unfortunately, some oxygen is not used for energy production, and instead causes oxidative damage to cell structures such as DNA. In the process, free-radicals are generated, which then cause even more damage, in a viscous chain reaction. Idebenone possesses the unique ability to funnel almost ALL oxygen into energy production, thereby increasing energy levels (mental and physical), and at the same time, acting as an antioxidant, reducing free-radical damage.

How is Idebenone better than co-enzyme Q10?

When blood flow is seriously reduced to any part of the body, due to a heart attack, stroke, trauma, shock, an unfit person beginning an exercise program, advanced age, or from chronic poor blood circulation -oxygen levels drop in that part of the body. Under such low oxygen conditions co-enzyme Q10 auto-oxidizes and produces free radicals in great quantities. In other words, in low oxygen environments, co-enzyme Q10 changes from an ANTI-oxidant into a PRO-oxidant! These free radicals then damage cell structures, and also halt ATP-energy production within the mitochondria, leading to cell death. Brain cells are especially sensitive to such damage, and may be severely damaged or destroyed within minutes. Conversely, under the same low oxygen conditions that cause Co Q10 to act as a pro-oxidant free-radical producer, Idebenone prevents free radical damage and maintains almost normal cell ATP energy levels to keep cells alive. Therefore, whilst Idebenone provides all of Co-enzyme Q10's benefits and more, it does not have Co-enzyme Q10's free-radical producing, energy sapping and tissue/DNA damaging negative effects, which occur under low oxygen conditions.
