Phosphatidylserine is a Phosphoglyceride Phospholipid that occurs naturally in the Brain and is also synthetically manufactured for use as a supplement. PROPRIETARY NAME (and dosage form): PS Phosphatidylserine (capsules) COMPOSITION: Each capsule contains the following as active ingredient: Phosphatidylserine (Soy derived, not from Bovine brain)........100 mg Inactive ingredients: Hypromellose (cellulose) vegetarian capsule shell (gelatin free), microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate (vegetarian – flow agent), magnesium silicate, silicon dioxide and colloidal silicon dioxide. Contains no colourants, preservatives, lactose, gluten, yeast, starch or artificial fillers. Contains plant extracts and natural fillers, with no colourants added - therefore the colour of the capsule contents may vary slightly from batch to batch. PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION: PS belongs to a class of fat-soluble compounds called phospholipids. Phospholipids are essential components of cell membranes, with high concentrations found in the brain. PS is the most abundant phospholipid in the brain. PS is important in neuronal membrane functions such as maintenance of the cell’s internal environment, signal transduction, secretary vesicle release, cell-to-cell communication, and cell growth regulation. PS helps ensure fluidity, flexibility and permeability in cell membranes. It stimulates the release of various neurotransmitters, such as acetylcholine and dopamine, enhances ion transport and increases the number of neurotransmitter receptor sites in the brain. INDICATIONS: PS aids in the following conditions: • Enhances mental and memory function in age-related decline • Improves cognitive function • Improves depression • Prevents exercise induced stress • Improves athletic performance • Assists in attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) CONTRA-INDICATIONS: There are no known contra-indications. WARNINGS: Do not exceed recommended dosages unless on the advice of a healthcare provider. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. If you are on any medication or suffering from any medical condition, it is advisable to seek medical advice before starting any new medicine, supplement or remedy. Safety in children has not been established. INTERACTIONS: Acetylcholinesterase (Ache) inhibitors and anticholinergic medicines: concurrent use of anticholinergic medicines and PS might decrease the effectiveness of the anticholinergic agents. Cholinergic medicines: combining PS with cholinergic medicines might excessively increase acetylcholine levels and potentially cause cholinergic side-effects. PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING: Safety in pregnancy and breast-feeding has not been established, do not use. DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Adults and children over 7 years of age: For general brain health: Take 1 capsule daily. For age related memory decline, ADD/ADHD or for stress-management. Take 1 capsule twice a daily. Children 4-7 years of age: Can be given half the adult dose. Take with or shortly after meal(s). SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Side effects: PS is generally well tolerated. Some people may experience mild gastrointestinal upset such as flatulence or insomnia. KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT: Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. In the case of accidental overdose of the product, contact the nearest hospital or poison control centre. IDENTIFICATION: Clear vegetarian capsule shell (size 0) containing beige contents. PRESENTATION: White HDPE container with white HDPE screw cap and seal for protection. STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS: Store in a cool dry place, out of the reach of children.
